Future Directions

Our goal is to develop SDSU into a national leader in Digital Humanities. We are doing this by focusing on enhancing our faculty, students, and regional relationships. As we learn and grow, we hope to expand our curriculum and develop a certificate program, build a collaboratory working space for digital projects and practices, and grow our community through strategic hiring and regional leadership.

Strategic Hiring

In May 2015, we were awarded an Area of Excellence by SDSU, “Digital Humanities and Global Diversity.” The award allowed us to hire 4 new faculty members to support the development of our research and “leverage current strengths on our campus into new partnerships and approaches to shared interests or goals.” Starting this fall, 2017, we will have 5 new Area of Excellence faculty in Digital Humanities... so look for new, great courses, collaborations, and pursuits!

Lab

Building is underway for a collaboratory space in Digital Humanities in Love Library-- a space for working, meeting, and showcasing digital projects. To follow the progress of this project, follow us on Twitter or Facebook.

Courses and Certificates

We are working to develop undergraduate curriculum in digital literacy that cuts across disciplinary boundaries to teach students to think critically about the media they use. We are also working to develop specialized certificates in Digital Humanities that will enhance current training and draw new students to SDSU for their education.

Regional Leadership

Over the past three years, we established SDSU as a regional leader in Digital Humanities—by hosting THATCamp (2014), organizing meetings with regional participants, leading an NEH-supported grant project to build a regional network focused on digital humanities pedagogy (2015-16), and more. We continue to collaborate with our regional partners in strategic planning, sharing of resources, and building a distributed network to foster digital humanities research, teaching, and community-outreach.
